INSTRUCTIONS
for Application of Rust Converter "CONTRAST"

(DSTU 4372:2005, TU U 14333082.001-98)

The rust converter "CONTRAST" (hereinafter, RC) is a universal vegetable-based anticorrosive means.

It is non-toxic. Non-combustible. Simple in handling. Can be used in inaccessible and hard-to-reach places of any configuration. Replaces cleaning of rust and one coat of primer. Replaces inter-operational primer. Favorably affects a welded joint. Restores surface. Blocks corrosion centers in cavities of metal. Dries up quickly. Washing off from surface is unneeded. Economic effect reaches 60%.

RC is used in any season for treatment of steel pipes, cable braiding, roofs, mesh reinforcement, rebar joints, containers, reservoirs, trunk pipelines, metal structures in mines, at thermal and nuclear power plants, in automobile service, ship repair and shipbuilding, railway car repair, subways, for food industry equipment, for revealing corrosion cells in high-pressure bottles and structures of special materials, in particular stainless ones, as well as microcracks and surface cavities during production of special-purpose materials, and in many national economy sectors.

Treatment methods and application of RC

Before applying RC, clean the surface of fat, dirt, poorly adhering paint, primer, insulation; remove layered and loose rust.

New products are treated with RC for preventing corrosion in pores and on seams of metal.

Apply RC to a rusty surface in a continuous uniform layer, without drips, by any method. It is recommended to apply it with a brush, rubbing the rust converter into the surface.

If rust is more than 150 m thick and there are rust sprouts, apply RC to affected places till formation of a continuous shining fine- or coarse-crystalline dark-blue antirust film, primer, which features a good adhesion to coatings.

After drying, a "pollen" can appear, which is to be removed with a soft cloth, and then the necessary coating, such as paint, is applied. When necessary, apply an insulating coat according to the technology of treatment of steel surfaces.

Drying with warm air (by blowing) or application of RC to a warmed-up surface for speeding up the drying is admissible.

When applying RC outdoors, see that precipitations (fog, rain, snow) do not get onto the surface till a complete drying-up of RC.

RC is applied to steel structures which are permanently under action of condensate by the same methods. For such structures, for obtaining good adhesion, it is recommended to use coatings that can be applied to a moist surface, not awaiting the drying-up of RC.

The method of application of the rust converter is selected in every particular case according to the object.

If RC gets on a painted surface that is not subject to a further treatment (painting and like), wash it off with water (such as visible places of an automobile).

Before application, thoroughly stir RC and filter it through a double gauze layer.

Drying time at a temperature of +20 C: 15-20 min. RC consumption: 60-200 g/m2.

Although RC is harmless, it is recommended to put on rubber gloves to avoid coloration of skin, and when RC is applied by a sprayer, to put on a respirator or gauze band.

At RC ingress on skin, a dark stain is formed, which is removed by and edible-grade acid dissolved in water. At RC ingress in eyes, rinse them with water.
